I get up early and again spend an hour with my camera capturing the beauty of the morning light.
After a nice breakfast in the hotel, and trying to smuggle Heidi into the car with us, we drive to Hood River. We have a nice stroll, some lunch and coffee, and prepare for our afternoon adventure...
We cross over the Gorge to the White Salmon River and Wet Planet for an afternoons white water rafting!
The next four hours are wet, but amazing. Nick braves the 20ft jump at decision rock, and the whole boat decides to brave the 12ft Hasun Falls. We had so much fun, that we immediately start making plans for a multi day trip next year.
We then drive the scenic route along HWY30 to Troutdale were we've actually pre-booked ourselves into the Best Western for two nights.
There is not much around the Best Western, except what can only be described as a Mexican grocery store/cafe. We decide to brave it, and it could possibly be the best decision of the trip. It was the tastiest, and cheapest Mexican food we've ever had.
Day Eleven.
After breakfast at the hotel we head out to make our acquaintance with an eleven foot sturgeon named Herman at the fisheries. We then stock up on refreshments and decide to do the mother of all hikes...
the thirteen mile Eagle Creek Trail . It's a stunning hike along the creek with the highlight being the Tunnel Falls at the end.

Tunnel Falls-Note the people on the right about to walk through the tunnel |
With aching feet and dreams of Mamacitas Mexican food we head back to Troutdale, and absolutely gorge ourselves on the best Mexican food in the world.
Day Twelve.
We manage one last quick hike, which is mercifully shorter at just three miles, but we make it to the top of Multnomah Falls .
We spend the rest of the afternoon pottering around Portland before we finish the trip off with Jack Johnson in concert.
Oregon is an amazingly beautiful state, I tried to capture as much of it as I could with my photos, but I'm not sure I've done it justice... best just to go see for yourself!
